The Vietnam safety ranking 2026 places the country 9th globally for Safety and Security in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI), according to information published by Vietnam’s Tourism Information Center (TITC) on October 7, 2026.
With a score of 6.52 out of 7, Vietnam climbed 18 places compared to 2024, joining Singapore, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Kuwait, Bahrain and Luxembourg among the world’s top 10 economies in this category.
The result highlights Vietnam’s strong security environment and its growing appeal as an international travel destination.
What Does the Vietnam Safety Ranking 2026 Mean?
Published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Travel & Tourism Development Index evaluates tourism development conditions through 17 pillars and 102 individual indicators. In 2026, Vietnam achieved upper-middle to leading global rankings in 13 of the 17 pillars.
The Safety and Security pillar assesses several factors, including public confidence in police services, perceptions of safety when walking alone at night, homicide rates, and the impact of terrorism and organized violence.
According to TITC, Vietnam’s strong performance reflects high perceptions of public safety, low crime levels and a terrorism impact score of zero in the underlying data.
Importantly, this ranking measures specific safety and security conditions within the TTDI framework, rather than representing an overall assessment of every travel-related risk.
A Positive Outlook for Vietnam Tourism in 2026
Safety and security have become increasingly important considerations for international travelers amid geopolitical uncertainty, rising travel costs and concerns about natural disasters and climate change.
According to TITC, while global tourism recorded average growth of just 0.4% in the first half of 2026, Vietnam has maintained double-digit tourism growth so far this year, reflecting the country’s continued appeal to international visitors.
This strong security ranking is particularly significant as Vietnam works toward its international visitor targets for 2026 and beyond. Alongside increasingly convenient visa policies here Vietnam’s visa exemption policies, expanding air connections, diverse tourism experiences and rich natural and cultural heritage, a stable and secure environment helps strengthen international travelers’ confidence and supports sustainable tourism growth.
For those wondering “Is Vietnam safe to travel in 2026?”, the WEF ranking provides a positive indication of the country’s overall security conditions. Nevertheless, travelers should continue to follow normal precautions, particularly regarding traffic, personal belongings and local weather conditions.
From the historic streets of Hanoi and the spectacular landscapes of Northern Vietnam to the cultural heritage of Hue and Hoi An, and the vibrant cities and waterways of Southern Vietnam, the country offers a remarkable variety of experiences for international visitors.
